After starting out on Instagram in 2017, it didn’t take long for this young star to become TikTok’s most popular user in 2019. How did she do it? Growing up in China
Born in Beijing, Echo Yue moved to the United States when she was 11 and learned English by watching American television shows. Though she’s been in the United States for more than half her life, she speaks with an accent that people can’t place. In high school, her classmates made fun of her accent and called her chinky but Echo never let it discourage her.
Nowadays, as an 18-year-old college freshman, Echo is starting to make a name for herself on social media. She has more than 1 million followers on Instagram and more than 700k followers on TikTok! Echo used to be very shy and nervous around other people until one day she took a dare from some friends who convinced her to put up a video where she talked about things she disliked.
When Echo shared the video with her friends, they liked it so much they encouraged her to keep posting videos.
The first thing Echo uploaded was just a joke video but soon enough she started making content like talking about cultural differences between China and America or even reviewing Korean beauty products which led to TikTok contacting Echo out of the blue. Music Career in China
I always had a passion for music, but I never thought it would be my career. After hearing about the app TikTok through my friends, I found that being on camera made me really happy. Now I use TikTok to post videos of myself singing and playing instruments in front of an audience of people who love what I do as much as I love it!
In just one year on the app, I’ve garnered over 100 million followers, started my own company and released two singles. First Single for Voice Acting
I’m Echo Yue, an 18-year-old girl who just made my first single for voice acting. I have been singing for four years and I am in the music industry club at school, but never thought that I would be making my own voice acting songs! As of right now, there are only two songs on my TikTok account (I’m @yueechoo) and they’re just covers of other artists.

My Success on YouTube and Instagram
As you probably know, I am Echo Yue. I am 18 years old and live in New York City. I have been doing YouTube for about 5 years now and just recently made the move to Instagram Stories.
It was never my intention to be famous, but now that I’m here, it feels great that people enjoy watching me as much as I enjoy making videos for them.
My family is always there for me no matter what happens in life – they’re my biggest supporters! But this past week has been really difficult with the whole thing with TikTok coming out and suddenly becoming really popular, especially since I’ve only had it since last September.
We were also working together on launching our first Echo Yue fragrance this week too, which was super exciting.
