Why Bangkok is the Top Digital Nomad Destination in the World

Those of us who are fortunate enough to work online are not tied to living in any particular place on the planet and it is no surprise that Thailand is at the top of the list. Who doesn’t love this tropical paradise? In this short article, we take a look at some of the reasons why digital entrepreneurs flock to Bangkok and other parts of Thailand.
- Great IT infrastructure – High-speed Internet is both reliable and very affordable! For less than $50 per month, you can get a mobile SIM with unlimited data and that works wherever you are in Thailand. It is obviously critical that a working professional can make real-time video calls and Thailand has better IT connectivity than some European countries.
- Low cost of living – For a few hundred dollars a month, you can rent a studio apartment in a luxury development, complete with swimming pool and fitness room. You have your own car parking space, which is covered and there are restaurants and shops within the facility. Transport is cheap, as is food; many expats actually save money by relocating to Thailand, which shows you how cheap it is when compared to Europe or the US. Many stay at a monthly hotel in Bangkok, which is much cheaper than regular hotels.
- Tropical climate – Let’s face it, no one likes a sub-zero winter and many expats escape the cold winter for a few months and there is no better place than the Land of Smiles. Most arrive in October and return home in February or March of the following year. The Thai winter runs from November to February, when temperatures can drop to 16˚ C but are normally in the 20-25˚ C range.
- Base for travel – Many nomads use Bangkok as a hub and over the period of a couple of years, they visit Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and other Southeast Asian countries. There are long-term storage units in Bangkok, where you can leave most of your gear, then travel light to neighbouring countries. Flights are very cheap and even if you live on a Thai beach, you still have a good Internet connection. Here is a guide for spring travel to Bangkok.
- Legendary nightlife – Bangkok has a reputation when it comes to nightlife and this is enough of a reason to visit this amazing city. Live bands play at well-known pubs and clubs, while the Bangkok disco scene is vibrant and you can dance the night away to your favourite music.
