Differences with other media folders

Telegram’s image-only folder is unlike any other media folder because when you save an image to it, your phone doesn’t compress it and share it with the server as all other Telegram media folders do. This means that you can save images without affecting their quality and feel free to use this folder as your photo collection.

Another important difference is that when you send an image from the Image-only folder, your friend will not get a notification about receiving this photo on his/her device. In contrast, when sending an image from other media folders (such as Privacy or Public), Telegram sends both a preview of the picture and its full-resolution version. The same applies to video files: if sent via Privacy or Public channels, they are compressed into several parts and then uploaded in separate packets; if sent via Secret Channels (which we’ll talk about later), their resolution remains unchanged throughout the transfer process because there are no compression algorithms involved here either.
